Hi there,

I’m so glad you’re here.

I’m Jennifer Johnston, a licensed psychologist in Cambridge, MA.

My mission is to support you in reaching your goals and in learning to not only cope with stress but also to grow from it.

I have over 20 years of experience helping people cope with crises, navigate life transitions, and find a deeper connection to themselves and those they care about.

I’d love to support you to get reacquainted with your inner strength to achieve a sense of mastery, wellbeing and increased confidence.

I work with individual adults and couples who…

  • Want to develop more ways of dealing with difficulties in their lives

  • Are ready to roll up their sleeves and work hard, both in and out of therapy, to reach their goals

  • Want to feel more connected with themselves and others

  • Want to feel more of a sense of joy and meaning in their lives

  • Want to explore sexual and/or gender identity, or how to be more connected to their authentic sexual self

My clients say that my style is…

Warm and caring.

Present, open and easy to smile. I want to get to know you human-to-human.

Level-headed.

My clients appreciate that I’m grounded, practical and realistic.

Even a little funny!

Humor can be healing. I treasure the moments of laughter on the solemn path of personal growth.

“The meaning of my life is to help others find
meaning in theirs.”

— Viktor E. Frankl

My history gives me a unique point of view as a therapist. I bring 20 years of experience both as a mental health therapist and yoga teacher.

I am licensed as a psychologist and a licensed mental health counselor.

I care about using evidence-based practices and I am certified in the following:

  • Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT).

EFT is structured couples therapy backed by research and grounded in the science of human attachment. It helps couples improve their connection and ability to reach out to each other to talk about topics that are typically really difficult, such as money, sex, and intimacy.

  • EMDR Treatment for Trauma

I’m trained in several trauma-focused treatments. One that I find particularly effective is called EMDR (or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).

It’s a treatment designed to help people deal with and recover from the effects of trauma.

  • Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT)

Since 1998 I have been teaching some form of mind/body practice. Whether it's yoga, mindfulness, meditation, or breathing, it has always made sense to me to integrate these interests into my work. I’m delighted that now research backs mind/body skills for many mental and medical health issues.

I offer mind/body strategies when it fits your needs. My clients say they feel more in touch with themselves and more confident in their ability to manage their emotions and actions.

  • Certified Sex Therapist (CST)

Sex Therapy certification is a rigorous process that involves a combination of clinical training, knowledge of physical and medical aspects of sexuality, and personal work of the therapist to identify and unlearn bias and get comfortable with discussing sexuality in all its forms.

So what does all of this mean for you?

It means you'll have a caring and experienced therapist on your side, ready to work with you to help you reach your goals.

If you’re also ready and willing to work hard we’ll be a great team. If you’d like to learn more get in touch. I’ll be glad to hear from you!
